SENSORY TOOL BENEFITS

How Can Sensory Tools Support My Child's Learning?

Research shows that “feeling or the sense of touch enhances the learning ability for tactile learners” (Sayles, PhD, RN, et al., 2005). Finding a physical way to use their hands while learning new content helps tactile learners learn more effectively and efficiently. “An object, such as silly putty may help their concentration” (Sayles, PhD, RN, et al., 2005).

Similarly, “students who are kinesthetic learners involve their bodies in learning” (Sayles, PhD, RN, et al., 2005). Body movement such as walking, swaying, or fidgeting can help these learners focus and absorb content (Sayles, PhD, RN, et al., 2005).

Incorporating the students' physical needs into the learning process can eliminate stress and frustration and promote focus and completion of learning tasks, leading to better experiences and increased success while distance learning or homeschooling.
